Ankit’s journey

Ankit graduated from Sinhgad College of Engineering in Pune, India in 2016 and in July of the same year he joined Bekaert as an apprentice trainee. Today, after 5.5 years with Bekaert, Ankit is now leading a team of Process Engineers following his most recent promotion as Plant Technical Manager.

“When I joined Bekaert this was my first job, and I didn’t know what to expect about the working culture within the manufacturing industry. Everyone supported me in every possible way to get settled in, including helping me to find accommodation.

I spent the first couple of months in training and then started to handle daily activities and mini projects with responsibility as a Process Engineer for “wet wire drawing” (this is one of our fundamental wire transformation processes that reduces the diameter of the wire while simultaneously making it longer, and stronger). I spent four years in this role, working on projects that created significant savings for the plant and enabled localization of the wire rod processes within India.

In 2019 I took on additional responsibilities as a Technical Service Engineer handling customers’ technical issues for Bekaert India and Bekaert Global supplies. In 2021, I moved to a new role with combined responsibilities as a Process Engineer in multiple areas. Less than a year later I am now leading a team of Process Engineers following my promotion as Plant Technical Manager.

I also continued my studies while working. Bekaert has supported me to gain a Master’s in Manufacturing Management, and I achieved my certification as ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt.

I really enjoy what I call “my journey” in Bekaert. I never feel like I am losing interest in my work, and I enjoy what I am doing, everyday! I have always had support from my manager and from my next level manager, as well as from the Global team. I don’t know how things work in other similar organisations, but I love the culture, the people, and the opportunities to grow with Bekaert.”
