Preparation Tips

You want to be successful in your recruitment journey to join our Young Graduate program, and you have probably already started to prepare. We have some simple tips to help you stand out and get noticed!

Preparation is the key to making a lasting first impression. Let’s look at how to get ready for an interview.

Research the company, industry, and position
Before the interview, read as much as you can about Bekaert.  Of course, you will find a lot of information on our website, but there’s much more to discover if you dare to go beyond!

Know your resume
Be prepared to discuss everything on your resume. Remember what you put in your resume may be the only information our team will have about you before you meet.

Expect us to ask about your professional experiences, field of study or thesis. We are interested about the choices you have made, what you discovered along the way and how this can help you and Bekaert in the future.

Help your interviewer get to know you and differentiate yourself from other candidates. Don't be too brief when answering "what and why" questions, but don't ramble, either. Expand on your experience and skills and focus your responses on how these relate to the job for which you are interviewing.

Practice makes perfect
Practice doesn’t mean that you memorize answers to questions, but instead think about how you answer questions, do you understand the reasoning behind certain questions, are your explanations clear, have you connected your experience to the role you are applying for. Don’t forget to practice the non-verbal answers too! What is your body language saying, how comfortable are you with making eye contact? You can practice with roommates, family, or friends, and don’t underestimate how much the bathroom mirror can help you too!

Prepare some questions to ask the interviewer
The questions you ask us will help you get more information to make an informed decision and will also confirm your interest in the job.

Always consider your questions carefully to make sure they are relevant to the person who is interviewing you and that the answers aren't easily found online. Make sure you know the next step in the process before you leave.

Dress to impress
A well-groomed, professional appearance is essential for a leadership career.

Don’t let your clothes detract from making a good impression. Decide what to wear well before the day of the interview. If you are unsure what people typically wear in the type of role for which you are interviewing, it’s always safe to err on the formal side.

Know where we will meet
Plan ahead of time, especially if you are invited to one of our offices or plants. Check your options to reach us and allow for heavier traffic at peak times. Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early so that you can relax and compose yourself. If you arrive earlier, wait, and review your notes. There may be times when we invite you for a virtual meeting, so we have some specific tips for video interviews too.

Video interviews
Prepare for a video interview as thoroughly as you would for a face-to-face interview at one of our locations. However, there are some additional things to keep in mind:
• Check the technology. You will be able to see from the invitation which video service will be used. Practice with your friends and               family if you can. This will make you more comfortable in the interview, allowing you to focus on the conversation.
• Think about where you will join the call and make sure you have privacy, a quiet location, and a good internet connection.
• Remember that the interviewer will be able to see you AND the things that surround you. As with an in-person interview, dress                appropriately, and keep things tidy and uncluttered.
• Maintain eye contact, focusing on your computer camera. It can be tempting to watch yourself or to read from documents, but                we recommend you stay focused on the conversation you are having with the interviewer.

Help us get to know who you are
Project your enthusiasm, confidence, and a positive attitude! Show us what makes you the best candidate for the position, and that Bekaert is the right employer for you. We are looking for graduates to join our team who will dare to go beyond, so show us your potential!
