Purpose and Mission

The purpose of this role is to lead, manage and coordinate the safe day to day operations of the Auckland Rigging workshop overseeing, wire rope rigging servicing, maintenance, load testing, certification of related equipment. Being a leadership role, positive, proactive and collaborative leadership is a key part of the role. Ensuring a safe working environment, company procedure adherence, cross training and policies are imbedded across the team are a key part of this role. This role is also engaged with wider business communication to support seamless continuity and collaboration across our network and customers.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
Workshop Coordination – Inspection, Assembly and Maintenance
- Coordinate the day-to-day workflow of rigging and lifting equipment jobs through the workshop, in support of the wider business across Sales and customer walk ins.
- Prioritise work in alignment with operational requirements and customer commitments.
- Actively participate, review and development of staff training, Scheduled toolbox talks, policy creation, change management, KPI’s, QSE Compliance and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Hands on role so will be required to carry out all rigging tasks, delegation of workloads to direct reports and basic facilities maintenance aspects including supplier and contractor management.
- Ensure equipment is scheduled for inspection, servicing, repair, and testing in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensure equipment is directed to the appropriate examination/inspection/test areas
- Manage tooling and stock inventories
- Ensure equipment calibration is maintained and always valid
Certification and Reporting
- Coordinate the preparation and issue of certificate reports, test certificates, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure certification records are accurate, complete, and issued to customers in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate workshop documentation and equipment records.
Customer and Internal Communication
- Act as a key point of contact for the business regarding equipment received, progress, and completion timelines.
- Liaise with customer, vendors, service teams, operations staff to ensure efficient workflow.
- Provide clear communication regarding equipment and job status, findings, and service requirements where required.
Quality Safety Environment (QSE) / Support Zero Harm Culture
- Comply with all Cookes and BBRG QSE policies, standards, and procedures.
- Promote and demonstrate safe working practices
- Participate in safety initiatives and actively contribute to the Zero Harm culture.
- Report and document any incidents, hazards, or near misses promptly.
- Support Performance management and or carry out disciplinary process with HR and or QSE departments
- Maintain a safe and organised workshop environment.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve workshop processes, efficiency, and service delivery.
- Support the implementation of improved systems for equipment tracking, reporting, and workflow management.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of quality and operational performance.
- Imbed 5S+1 Culture in the workshop
Other Duties
- Perform all other duties as required from time to time and as required by management and operations teams
Skills
Essential
- 5 years minimum experience in lifting industry and or Rigging industry with positions of management
- Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical background helps
- Working knowledge of lifting and rigging equipment, including slings (wire rope, chain, and synthetic), shackles, hooks, lifting beams, hoists, and associated lifting accessories.
- Ability to identify equipment damage, wear, and non-conformance and escalate for technical review where required.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of applicable New Zealand and international standards relating to lifting equipment inspection and testing (e.g., AS/NZS and ISO standards where relevant).
- Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple jobs and prioritise equipment through a workshop environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of SHEQ systems and compliance.
- Proficient in digital tools and reporting systems.
- NZ Driving Licence
Desirable
- Understanding of safe handling, storage, and management of lifting equipment within a workshop environment.
- Forklift Operator qualified
