About the role

The Lab Technician Electrochemistry and Corrosion will play an important role in developing the (electro)chemical test expertise on metallic coatings & corrosion testing to support research activities of the Core Technology experts, BU projects and Innovation.  The lab technician will be responsible for maintaining and operating the test equipment, conduct experiments, analyze data, and contribute to the expertise in electrochemistry and corrosion.

Your Impact as Lab Technician Electrochemistry and Corrosion:

  • Test expertise:
  • Prepare and execute general and Bekaert-specific experiments related to electrochemistry and corrosion (e.g. cyclic voltammetry, salt spray, …)
  • Be the main point of contact for lab requests concerning electrochemistry and/or corrosion by discussing the problem setting and advising on required experiments to come to the result.   Assist in critical interpretation of the results.
  • Develop and expand expertise related to electrochemistry and corrosion in house, by setting up and maintaining collaboration with external labs and by following (external) trainings or seminars.
  • Equipment:
  • Ownership of equipment related to electrochemistry and corrosion: perform first troubleshooting and set up required maintenance contracts with supplier, keep procedures up to date, order consumables, ensure adherence to SHE and Q standards, …
  • Give advice on replacement and/or expansion of equipment, collect quotes and specifications from suppliers, … (in collaboration with lab manager and purchasing department).
  • Compliance and Lab Processes:
  • Ensure correct data management working with the LIMS system for safeguarding experimental data, technical reports, documentation, presentations, …
  • Collaborate with the lab team on inventory & ordering of consumables, waste flow management, SHE and Q regulations, ensuring the good use of PPEs, …
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with lab team members as well as Core Technology experts, BU projects and Innovation teams.
  • Provide clear and concise communication of results and updates to team members and superiors.

About You

Essential skills & competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, electrochemistry, metallic coatings (or a related field).
  • Previous experience working in an electrochemistry laboratory.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, especially those relevant to electrochemistry and/or corrosion.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and practices.
  • Strong communication skills (NL & EN), both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of six sigma and statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab).
