About the role

As the Process Engineer (Hyve) QA, you will  support the activities in Energyville (Genk) in the framework of the funded “Hyve” project belonging to the Hydrogen platform of Bekaert.



 Your Impact as Process Engineer (Hyve) QA


  • Collaborate with our Hyve consortium partners (at Bekaert and at Energyville) to create a comprehensive log-book of the different process development activities, characterization methods and resulting product properties.
  • Define in-depth elements for risk analysis and set priorities of resulting actions.
  • Timely identify and communicate action points, redirecting them to colleagues in IMEC or Bekaert Technology Centre for further investigation or detailed analysis.
  • Oversee, identify, implement, and verify improvement actions related to process stability and quality, utilizing a Statistical Process Control approach.
  • Actively participate in the formulation of production line specifications, aiming for acceptable OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
  • Develop appropriate automation protocols and associated parameters.
  • Evaluate and define required sensors, measurement equipment and monitoring systems.
  • Provide input to our central mechanical, electrical, and automation design teams in Deerlijk.
  • The role necessitates hands-on work and is based in Genk.


Key Responsibilities


  • Analyze process data which is continuously generated on pilot equipment
  • Set-up and perform quality inspection of produced parts.
  • Arrange specialized trials to assess new concepts for process or quality enhancement (e.g., controls, automation, speed optimization, sensor integration, etc.).
  • Support occasional production for prototype construction to evaluate new concepts.
  • Establish and evaluate a process control plan to control process deviations within acceptable limits.
  • Manage logistics  between onsite and offsite inspection activities


About You


Essential skills & competencies


  • Master’s degree in (electro-)chemistry, (electro-)mechanical engineering, or equivalent with a minimum experience of 5 years
  • Preferably experience in a lab scientist position or prototyping environment, particularly in electro-chemistry/electrolysis.
  • Team-oriented and performance/results-driven.
  • Proficient in team-communication, both on-site in Genk, as well as towards team members in the Bekaert Technology Centre (BTC) in Deerlijk.
  • Self-organized, independent teamplayer and proactive initiative-taker.
  • Possess a creative mindset and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibit a structured approach and meticulous attention to detail in work methods.
  • Flexibility in schedule, accommodating potential trials that extend beyond standard working hours.
  • Willingness to travel for occasional meetings, steering committees, and brainstorming sessions at BTC
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
