About the role

As the R&D Process Engineer, you will support process development activities in the framework of the funded “Hyve” project belonging to the Hydrogen platform of Bekaert.

 

 Your Impact as R&D Process Engineer

 

  • Collaborate with our Hyve consortium partners at Energyville to analyze data generated on the pre-pilot-line, and create valuable insights for industrial process development.
  • Coordinate and organize  dedicated trials to optimize pilot process equipment which you execute in the Bekaert Technology Centre (BTC) on lab equipment developed specifically for the project.
  • Collaborate closely with process technology experts at BTC to develop solutions to control process deviations within acceptable limits (e.g. with the help of extra sensors, alarm setting, etc)
  • Centralize, document, and report on the progress of process development, ensuring alignment with project timelines and milestones. Timely identification and communication of deviations are a key priority for you.
  • Main work location is Deerlijk, with intermittent stays in Genk for dedicated process development campaigns, typically spanning a few days to a week.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Map out processes and their respective subprocesses.
  • Analyze throughput times and identify areas for optimization.
  • Analyze process yield for each subprocess and the overall process.
  • Report progress of process development actions, quantifying achieved progress against projected goals.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive process logbook.
  • Plan forthcoming process development campaigns
  • Efficiently communicate between local teams at BTC and Energyville

About You

Essential skills & competencies

 

  • Master’s degree in (electro-)chemistry, (electro-)mechanical engineering, or equivalent with a minimum experience of 5 years
  • Demonstrates a keen interest in R&D process development at both laboratory and semi-industrial scales.
  • Has a clear affinity for process enhancement, sensor technologies, digital tools, and data processing
  • Displays a team-oriented approach while keeping focus on performance and results.
  • Exhibits strong communication skills, facilitating efficient information exchange between BTC and Energyville, with short feedback loops.
  • Self-organized team member, balancing independent work with  proactive initiative.
  • Possesses a creative mindset for effective problem-solving.
  • Adopts a structured work approach and maintains meticulous attention to detail.
  • Adaptable and flexible, willing to accommodate trials that might extend beyond traditional working hours.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to participate in trials on location.
