About the role

This position will be placed within a larger group focussing on process development and optimisation and will report to the Lead of process development and optimisation within the Hydrogen R&D Group. You will be working in a new and exiting field of green hydrogen production where you test groundbreaking ideas and see the most promising options being implemented in the production plants.


Your Impact as ‘R&D Technician – Hydrogen’:


  • You will get acquainted with existing and new manufacturing processes present in Bekaert or available at external sources.
  • You will define and organize process trials in cooperation with the Process Development and Operations Teams to support build-up of process knowhow, problem solving and testing optimized and new processes.
  • You will take part and support ideation, validation, and implementation of improved and new processes in one of our manufacturing plants.
  • You will test and evaluate product prototypes towards quality, performance in cooperation with different labs.
  • You will process and report on trials and product results in a structured and comprehensive way to Process Development Team.
  • Depending on specific tasks, you will work on site of one our manufacturing plants (domestic or abroad) in collaboration with local teams.
  • You will approach internal and external partners to obtain access to specific expertise, equipment, process knowhow to support process development in general.


About You

Essential skills & competencies

  • You have a degree in (electro)mechanical or chemical engineering or equivalent by experience.
  • You have an innovative and creative mindset (thinking outside of the box)
  • You can easily pick up new knowhow regarding existing and new processes.
  • You are hands on, a true team player & result/action oriented.
  • You are a strong communicator & proactive problem solver.
  • You’re excellent in dealing with ambiguity (dare to challenge the ‘what is’).
  • You are structured in your approach and have high attention to detail in way-of-working.
  • You put safety first in all aspects of the job and strive for zero accidents.
  • You’re fluent in English. 
  • You are experienced in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Powerpoint.
  • You have knowledge and/or experience in statistical analysis.
