About the role

As R&I Lab Technician in the Mechanical Testing lab, you will play a crucial role in developing test expertise in the field of mechanical deformation of materials, supporting a broad spectrum of products, processes, projects, and business units.  You will contribute to new measurement methods, analyse and report generated data and share built-up expertise.

Your Impact as R&I Lab Technician Mechanical Testing:

• You design and construct test set-ups to evaluate new ideas and principles towards performance, quality and possibility to implement in industrial environments.
• You take part and support ideation, validation, and implementation of improved and new processes.
• You test and evaluate various kinds of samples (steel wires, metal fibers, textiles, steel cables, belts, polymers - all with different compositions and/or coatings, ...) in cooperation with different labs.
• You develop measurement methods to support the internal or external customer in the best way possible
• You write concluding reports in cooperation with the lab team, core technology experts, BU projects and innovation teams.
• You build-up expertise on both the test equipment as well as Bekaert products.
• You ensure correct data management working for safeguarding experimental data, technical reports, documentation, presentations, …

About You

Essential skills & competencies

• A bachelor or preferably master’s degree in electro-mechanics / Industrial engineering / mechatronics.
• A creative flair and design ability. You take initiative.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• You are hands on, a true team player & result/action oriented.
• You’re excellent in dealing with ambiguity (dare to challenge the ‘what is’).
• You are structured in your approach and have high attention to detail in way-of-working.
• You are preferably experienced in MS tools, in CAD / CAE software (Solidworks, Creo, …) and you have knowledge and experience in statistical analysis (six sigma and statistical analysis software, e.g., Minitab).
• Strong communication skills (NL & EN), both written and verbal.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
• You put safety first in all aspects of the job and strive for zero accidents.
