Within the Bekaert Research & Innovation department located in Deerlijk, we are currently looking for a colleague, with a passion for lifelong learning, to strengthen the team "Corrosion and metallic coatings".

Then you might be the R&I Technician corrosion and metallic coatings with a passion for chemistry that we are looking for.


Your role


  • You are mainly active in the research field of corrosion.
  • You start with assignments to support your team and under the strong guidance of your teammates. You gradually learn to work out problems yourself, you learn to independently address the problem with your internal customers and you eventually evolve into someone who detects opportunities within our research domain.
  • You work in a lab environment where you use corrosion and electrochemical lab techniques.
  • You coordinate research with experts in other disciplines.
  • Knowledge is crucial in this research domain. You will deepen your expertise and regularly read scientific articles related to corrosion.
  • You take care of the theoretical and practical elaboration of your problems.
  • You systematically build up your knowledge about Bekaert related products, processes ...
  • You are confronted with complex problems that can be approached from different perspectives and you consider the advantages and disadvantages of those different perspectives.
  • Although everyone works independently, new and difficult problems are always discussed with the team and you are also involved in the challenges of your colleagues.
  • The corrosion related assignments come from different angles:
    • Expertise assistance: you take on technical questions from development projects, sales, marketing and production. You discuss and research these questions and report the results.
    • You participate in research projects that run within our group.
    • You participate in innovation projects.
  • You report with the necessary scientific style and substantiation.
  • You maintain a good balance between your critical scientific attitude and pragmatic solutions.
  • You have a dynamic role in which you are constantly growing.

Your profile


  • You hold a master's degree in chemistry or you are equivalent by competence. Experience in electrochemistry, corrosion or materials science is a great asset.
  • You want to keep learning continuously. You like to read scientific articles.
  • You have a critical mindset.
  • You always look at the pros and cons of each solution and enjoy bringing ideas for improvement.
  • You always wonder what the purpose, usefulness and context is of an assignment.
  • You like to solve problems and you take the necessary initiative to do so.
  • You are a real team player and you are also very customer-oriented. It gives you energy to provide support to internal customers.
  • You like a dynamic work environment with a multitude of questions and changing priorities.
  • You have strong communication skills, you are a natural leader, you know how to motivate and enthuse people in order to achieve the team objectives.
  • You attach great importance to safety and quality.
  • You speak and write Dutch and English fluently.
  • You have good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
