About the role
We are recruiting for two Forensic Rope Technicians to join our established team in our Global Technology Centre based at Doncaster. As part of a team of 18, this role will be integral to the on-going development of our products and will offer the opportunity to develop and learn our own Bekaert standards, whilst forging a career within a niche industry. This role is not just laboratory based. It will include first hand shop floor experience, use of various specialised testing equipment, and the use of power tools in order to disassemble, forensically evaluate, and report on our high-performance products.
Responsibilities
As a Forensic Rope Technician, you will:
- Carry out product investigations including performing structured disassembly of products and record observations during the process
- Prepare samples and perform a range of mechanical tests including tensile, torsion and reverse bends
- Carry out sample preparation of steel specimens for micro-structural examination
- Perform micro and macro examination of steel specimens
- Perform data collection and analysis
- Report results using digital image capture techniques and Microsoft tools
- Ability to produce comprehensive technical reports on the findings from the investigations
- Provide support to the Forensic Investigations Manager as required
It is expected that the Forensic Technician will be able to complete and provide timely written reports and various testing and examinations of products without continuous supervision.
About You
Essential skills & competencies
- Experience of practical laboratory techniques, either in the workplace or from college/university
- A minimum of 5 GCSE’s grade C or above (including, science, maths, and English) with work experience, or a degree in a relevant scientific field
- Graduates looking for starting a career may apply
- Basic knowledge and ability in the use of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
- A methodical approach to tasks and the ability to record detailed observations. Previous technical report writting experience would be an advantage
- Basic knowledge of test methodology applied to evaluate the condition of wire, wire rope and fibre rope products or composite & metal products would be an advantage, but not essential
- Ability to effectively communicate is essential
- Must be able to work safely in a laboratory environment
- The abilitiy and willingness to learn and develop new skills
- The ability to work well in a team
