Bridon-Bekaert Ropes Group are looking for a new Test Engineer to join our Technology Centre.


The Test Engineer will primarily be responsible for ensuring tests conducted in the Technology Centre are executed accurately and in accordance with the BBtec operating procedures and support/lead the development of new tests. The development of new tests will be in close collaboration with other technology teams. The Test Engineer will be responsible for the commissioning of new test equipment and test processes within the Technology Centre. Other core duties will include control of standard operating procedures (SOPs), execution of test plans, provide expertise for sample preparation and the training of technicians in all aspects of wire rope and synthetic rope testing. This may include travelling to support other sites


Principle accountabilities shall include but not be limited to:

  • The Test Engineer will ensure tests conducted in the Technology Centre are executed accurately and in accordance with BBtec operating procedures.
  • Ownership of new test equipment and processes until the operation is well established and all Operators/Technicians are fully trained and competent. This will include detailed documentation of the new equipment/process and liaison with engineering teams both with BBRG and from external companies.
  • Ownership of sample termination training for all BBtec operators to ensure quality, safety, and repeatability. This also includes ownership of the maintenance of socketing equipment and management of consumables such as resin and sockets. If sample termination is required outside BBtec (such as Pre-Stress) then the Test Engineer will ensure these are managed and meet the requirements of BBtec.
  • Train technicians for new test machine set-up and operation including the loading and unloading of test machines within the BBtec testing department. Ensure the training matrix is maintained and any training requirements are identified and actioned.
  • The Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring all SOP’s required for BBtec activities are available and up to date. They also take overall responsibility for the training of SOP’s and ensuring competence of Operators and Technicians but works with the BBtec Operations Manager to achieve this.
  • Ensure and enforce 6S compliance especially in sample storage, racking systems and tooling associated with BBtec test equipment.
  • Work to resolve any operational quality issues or complaints raised by working with other BBRG personnel, auditors, and customers as appropriate. Ensure that any corrective actions are robust, documented accordingly and introduced to BBtec SOP’s, process flows and operating procedures.
  • Responsible for overall ownership of the goods in process and the monitoring of adherence to procedure.
  • Monitor and arrange for calibration of BBtec equipment to ensure test data is accurate and reliable. Continually review ways of working to improve quality of data from the Technology Centre.
  • Promote best practice and the sharing of knowledge amongst employees.
  • Provide cover for the Operations Manager during holiday periods.
  • Raise purchase requisitions for items relating to BBtec operations activities.
  • Organisational skills are paramount for this role
  • Any other ad-hoc duty as reasonably corresponding with the role.


We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • Technical awareness of rope and wire test techniques and procedures.
  • Dedicated to providing the highest quality which meets the requirements of internal / external customers.
  • An understanding of engineering concepts, particularly those relating to ropes and mechanical test equipment.
  • A relevant engineering qualification or several years of proven experience.
  • Experience of working in a H&S driven culture
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Time management.
  • Intermediate Microsoft office.
  • Ability to train team members.
  • An ability to work methodically in an environment where detail and accuracy is key
  • Working within an industry where health and safety is paramount.
  • Development reviews and constructing development plans.
  • Creation of procedures or documentation to control processes.
  • Experience of training team members
  • Co-ordinating and delivering learning and development interventions whilst showing an awareness of the audience.
  • Accurate and on time, add value without affecting the core responsibility of the role
