About the role

 

Your Impact as Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator - Wilkes-Barre, PA

Responsible and accountable for leading the environmental, health and safety initiatives in support of the business requirements. Ensure environmental and safety compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Drive continuous improvement initiatives within environmental, health, safety, and associated areas. Direct safety training activity for new hires and annual training requirements for all areas of the plant. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety and environmental federal, state, and local regulations. Drive incident/accident-free workplace initiative through education, training, coaching and other initiatives to create a culture of ownership for safety within the workforce.

 

Your Essential Job Functions

  • Monitor and maintain RTW program for employees on workers’ compensation in relation to accelerating their return through transitional duties as well as working with the local medical community.
  • Maintain and monitor all safety programs currently in place and to recommend viable changes to increase their effectiveness.
  • Act as an independent auditor to verify training efforts with hourly employees and inform management of any weaknesses for correction.
  • Spearhead efforts to communicate to employees about specific efforts on behalf of the Company in relationship to ISO, OHSAS, OSHA, quality, EHS, etc. and to follow-up/document their understanding of each.
  • Maintain, enforce, and update all EH&S policies/procedures.
  • Support and participate in investigations into all accidents, incidents, and near misses and take related corrective action.
  • Compile and evaluate EHS statistics.
  • Perform safety inspections.
  • Develop in conjunction with Supervisors/Managers safe work procedures.
  • Communicate the hazards and standard operating systems to those at risk.
  • Ensure environmental compliance (ie permits, clean air, lead audits, wastewater).
  • Emphasize a safe approach to working (ie awareness with machines, employee’s attitudes).
  • Ensure safety and environmental policies and procedures are up to date, understood, available to all employees, and adopted by Department Managers.
  • Review and update departments on a regular basis.
  • Ensure statutory reporting requirements are up to date and required documentation is maintained in a central, accessible location.  (Required documentation is the responsibility of Department Managers).
  • Chair meetings to review BBRG’s approach to environmental, health, and safety.
  • Communicate new initiatives and requirements to managers and aid in meeting those initiatives and requirements.
  • Assistance may be required with safety meetings, OSHA inspections, creating/updating policies, procedures, and manuals, performing/scheduling training, OSHA conferences, etc
  • Training and maintaining training records for EHS requirements.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

 

About You

 

Essential skills & competencies

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience. Such experience typified through knowledge of the wire drawing industry, steel cord process, statistical analysis, and design of experiments.  A working knowledge the operations of and understanding the needs of customers is also required.
  • Experience in EHS: OSHA, DEP, ISO, and all local/state/federal regulations
  • Experience in manufacturing. Custom made to order manufacturing preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently to meet or exceed guidelines.
  • Ability to travel, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation.
  • Must have experience working with Microsoft Office and other software programs.
