Pay Off End:
Employee handles steel wire in a variety of sizes and carbons.  Wire is supplied by furnace operator from stock as scheduled or instructed.  Essentials of job are – loading reels into pay-off stand.  Threading wire through guides and furnace, removal of tags from reels.  Record daily production of changes.  Visual checks required on reel condition.

Employee mus perform visual checks of all tanks.  May be required to perform various tests or record various sets of data regarding the operation of the furnace.


This is a team enviroment.  Three-man team working three or four shifts.  This team works closely with take-up operators during threading up, changing reels and repairing wire breaks.  Periodically employee will perform a de-slugging of tanks and also lead drossing of lead bath.


Take-Up End:
Employee handles steel wire in a variety of sizes and carbons. Carriers are removed by pallet truck or when necessary a forklift.  Essentials of the job are locating welds as they wind on each block.  Re-identify wire and put tag on carrier.  Removing carriers with pallet truck.  Test bottom and top of carrier wire for tensile and size.  Weigh the carrier of wire and place it into stock.  All data must be entered into computer system.  Controlling the inline process, i.e.:  temperatures, pH of rinses, add chemicals and materials as needed and removing sludge, etc. as required.  Responsible for casting correctly in a minimum of time.  Incorrect cast is scrap.  Continuous observation of cast and falling of wires from blocks to carriers and rotation of turntables is required as well as continuous knowledge of the performance of the line. Periodically employee will perform a de-slugging of tanks and lead drossing of lead bath.


Housekeeping:  Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area.
