Purpose and Mission

We are seeking a Humanoid Robot Application Engineer to bridge the gap between cutting-edge humanoid robotics technology and practical industrial manufacturing at Bekaert. This is not a robotics R&D role—our goal is not to build humanoid robots, but to deploy, integrate, and operationalize them into real production environments. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in industrial automation, hands-on field experience, and the pragmatic mindset to turn promising technology into measurable shop-floor value.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

1. Technical Expertise & Industry Insight THE ACTIVITIES & SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:
1. Understand and master the knowledge of humanoid robots, including locomotion, manipulation, whole-body control, and human-robot interaction

2. Stay up-to-date with development trends in humanoid robotics and AI technology, with the ability to distinguish the practicality, advantages, and disadvantages of related technologies

3. Evaluate and benchmark various humanoid hardware and software architectures

4. Assess technology maturity and vendor roadmaps to inform strategic decisions

5. Translating business requirements into clear technical specifications, ensuring alignment with operational needs

6. Support the development and implementation of long-term strategies for Bekaert humanoid robots on the technical side

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
Deliver regular report, suppliers comparing and scoring.
Provide technical go/no-go recommendations
2. Solution Delivery & Supplier Governance THE ACTIVITIES & SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:
1. Effectively communicate with suppliers on technical matters.Review supplier technical proposals and provide effective feedback

2. Identify the effectiveness and correctness of supplier work deliverables

3. Supervise and drive suppliers to complete work according to requirements, timelines, and quality standards;

4. Conduct technical evaluations and acceptance testing of supplier deliverables (FAT/SAT).

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
Make sure the technical solutions according to predifined criteria, project milestones on time.
3. Training & Knowledge Transfer THE ACTIVITIES & SCOPE OF AUTHORITY:
1. Master relevant knowledge and skills through the first stage of training for humanoid robots in collaboration with suppliers

2. Be able to conduct the second stage of humanoid robot training at Bekaert, with the ability to operate with and later without supplier support

3. Develop training materials and documentation for internal knowledge transfer in Bekaert.

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
Internal training completion and trainee competence sign-off

 

Skills

  • Familiar with technical routes such as VLA, VLM, multimodal large models, and foundational robot models
  • Understand action generation/strategy learning methods such as Flow Matching, Diffusion Policy, imitation learning, and reinforcement learning
  • Familiar with the upper architecture of robots from task input to action output, including modules for task understanding, behavioral decision-making, skill calling, and action generation
  • Able to evaluate open-source models, self-developed models, fine-tuning solutions, and deployment plans
  • Able to define clear interface boundaries
  • Understanding of industrial production environment, familiar with industrial protocols (Modbus, OPC-UA, etc.) or industrial safety standards is preferred
  • Be able to use English for technical communication.

Previous Experience

  • At least 1-2 years application experience in Humanoid robotics industry
  • Experience working with external technology vendors/suppliers in an industrial context
  • Hands-on experience operating ≥1 humanoid robot platform (e.g., Tesla Optimus, Figure, Unitree, Agility, 1X, or equivalent)

Qualifications and Education

Master's degree or above in Artificial Intelligence/Machine deep learning/Computer science/Robotics or equivelant.
