Purpose of the Job 

- Make improvements on existing lab testing methods
- Develop new test methods according to the needs of customers or projects
- Contribute technical expertise to research & innovation projects 

Task Description 

1. Lead technical team of mechanical lab to solve technical problems for internal & external customers
    a) Define testing procedures to identify root causes for certain problems
    b) Analyze samples by using different lab characterization techniques
    c) Organize necessary technical discussion with customers to interpretate experimental results
    d) Visit Bekaert plants to have in-depth investigation on specific problems
    e) Make on-site visits independently or together with procurement/sales departments to solve technical problems of Bekaert customers/suppliers 

2. Lead projects within core expertise or other research & innovation activities
    a) Develop and provide expertise in principle understanding and characterization techniques, such as adhesion/fatigue/tribology, etc.
    b) Deliver technical reports according to project needs 
    c) In-depth exploration in certain domains, by literature review, market research and exposition/conference visiting, etc. 
    d) Work with different department closely to make sure progress of project is on track.  
    e) Actively listen to the voices of different stakeholders, and be able to response accordingly. 

3. Continuously grow lab competence in adhesion/fatigue/static testing techniques 
    a) Follow the progresses of leading teams in universities, competitors, suppliers, etc, by reviewing literatures, attending exhibitions/symposiums/conferences, etc.
    b) Propose investment plan to update lab characterization techniques.
    c) Establish testing platforms in-house to benchmarking with external parties. 
    d) Development of new measurement techniques and methods, such as friction coefficient test for filament or cord, wear evaluation method of die
    e) Give training to lab technicians and engineers to grow and sustain lab competence in these areas. 

4. Define improvement plan and take actions to enhance lab testing quality
    a) Identify and solve non-conformities in audits/cross-checks 
    b) Define improvement actions according to voice of customers
    c) Take effective improvement actions by using 6 sigma/ quality management tools (Gage R&r, MSA, t-test, IS/ISNOT, 5Why, Ishikawa diagram, etc.)

Your Profile 

1. Hold a Master or above degree in material science related majors, including metallic materials, inorganic material, polymers, composites mechanics of material, chemistry, electrochemistry, etc
2. Open-minded, non-linear thinker and Inspired to become an Innovator
3. Ability to use 6 sigma tools, certified six Sigma Black Belt preferred
4. Good communication and reporting skills in both English and Chinese
5. Team worker with good coordination skills
6. Determined and passionate to do in-depth study in characterization method development and processing technologies
