Purpose and Mission

RR Global Engineering aims to be the preferred partner to provide engineering solutions to the RR business, offering a total solution at the lowest total cost of ownership. The job holder is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the engineering site in Jiangyin in line with the RR Engineering Strategy 

Key Activities and Responsibilities

1. Customer Centricity (OTD / QA)    -    Ensures the overall delivery and quality of Geng@Bekaert offerings (Engineering solutions, equipment, spare parts  services – ELM 2.0) to its customers, is responsible for the quality management system (QMS) in BTEC;

Performance indicators: OTD and quality targets for equipment, service and spare parts;

2. Safety Health and Environment    -    Is ultimately responsible for ensuring the implementation of the SHE policy and legal requirements to create a safe and healthy work environment for all employees = “no harm to anyone”. He/she will chair the safety council and leads by example towards this common goal (Felt Leadership);

Performance indicators: leading and lagging (TRIR, pSIF,…) indicators + targets for site-specific SHE initiatives;

3. Resource and talent management    -    Together with the team leaders, proactively manages the resources in the workshop, in full alignment with the activity forecast (= CAPDEM);
-    Oversees the key hiring and talent development programs in line with the long term strategy;

Performance indicators: CAPDEM balance, delivering on hiring and talent plan in line with the RR Engineering Strategy;

4. Cost control and financial result    -    Drives and leads site operational cost control and reduction efforts and contributes to the overall RR Engineering financial targets;

Performance indicators: cost management and RR Engineering financial targets;

5. Operational Excellence    -    Fosters and maintains a culture of operational excellence (in the workshop, design, low cost sourcing,…) and value-based thinking in everything we do;

Performance indicators: workshop department efficiency targets.

6. X+1/5 and target setting    -    Leads the site X+1/5 exercises and implements the outcome/plan;
-    Leads the BTEC-RR target-setting process (definition, deployment and monthly reviews) in alignment with the RR Engineering targets;

Performance indicators: outcome of X+1/5 exercise, SMART target setting

7. Communication and interaction    -    Prepares and participates in the monthly RR Global Operations meetings, the quarterly RR Global Engineering Safety Council meeting and various topical global Steerco’s and local meetings;
-    Builds and maintains the proper network and fora to capture the relevant RR engineering related inputs from the plants in the region of responsibility. Acts as the key/end point contact for the RR engineering activities in the region, liaises with the regional RR plant managers and captures their inputs (e.g. X+1 intake session);

Performance indicators: overall evaluation / judgement backed up by cases;

Skills

  • Has an excellent command of English, both oral and written. Proficiency in Mandarin is a plus.
  • Exhibits a strong intercultural awareness and competence, is able to think and act in a global context;
  • Has strong leadership and influencing skills, is able and willing to take decisions under pressure and is capable to transform an organization;
  • Has excellent communication, liaison and reporting skills: capable to convey the right (condensed) information to the team he/she leads, senior management and peers;
  • Has strong analytical skills: analyzes information and formulates conclusions, solutions and recommendations;
  • Is conscientious and well-organized, demonstrating sound time management skills and is capable to delegate;
  • Shows a strong determination, drive and motivation to meet goals and targets;
  • Is willing to learn, improve him/herself and capable to coach others;
  • Can build and grow a team and expand his/her global network;
  • Has solid knowledge of business processes and functions (Finance, HR, procurement, Operations, Technology);
  • Is able to think strategically in a global context;
  • Has a strong affinity with and interest in Bekaert’s RR production equipment, processes and products;
  • Acts transparently and has a solid track record of living up to the Bekaert Values and Code of Conduct;

Previous Experience

  • Has experience and a proven track record as a General Manager or similar role / level (e.g. Operations Manager of a Business Platform) working in a global team and organization.

Qualifications and Education

  •    Holds a BSc or MSc (is a plus) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or another relevant field
