About the role

Your Impact as Manager - Operations & projects

Location : Ranjangaon, Pune (50 Km from pune)

I. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• You will lead a team of metallurgical engineers, mechanical engineers and technicians working in the labs and pilot plant to support initiatives such as:
  • product development for India market
  • global process development in various process domains
  • advanced problem solving

by offering and generating expertise in people, equipment, and test method developments.  

• You will continue to develop BITC as a global hose reinforcement wire (HRW) expertise centre through offering advanced analysis and insights on competitors, Bekaert plants and collaboration with customers.  
• You will occasionally lead projects and build your expertise in one to multiple process technology domains.

II. ROLE DESCRIPTION

Lab and pilot plant operations management

• You will provide a vision and roadmap towards stakeholders and team members on development of the lab and pilot plant in its ability to support various initiatives.
• You will design the team scorecard and use it to derive targets for the team and individual members based on evolving needs of the technical center, competency development, expertise and the project portfolio.
• You look to create the appropriate team culture that facilitates seamless effective support across all teams while ensuring that systems related to safety, quality and 5S are lived by.
• Your guidance in complying with ISO & TS quality systems will be essential in the upkeep of the same.
• You would manage the daily operations to ensure quality of analysis and delivery timing of reports are up to customer expectations and service level agreements and continuously look to develop effective methods to create better efficiencies in the material labs.
• You propose investments for lab and pilot plant equipment on an annual and 5 year basis with clear view of their purpose, costs & benefits.
• You develop contingency plans for all tests through the use of sister R&D labs and local ones.
• You will organize customer/stakeholder feedback to drive continuous improvement programs.

People development

• You challenge and drive the team members to continuously improve the quality and delivery of their reports to lab customers.
• You encourage and inspire your team for open collaboration on projects with other teams such as product and process technology teams and provide your own expertise as needed in such programs.
• You build the competency in the respective domain of team members through effective performance dialogue with team members on a periodic basis.
• You take ownership of defining training programs for yourself and your team as a function of business needs and expertise build up.
• Your mastering of advanced equipment facilities such as Scanning Electron Microscope and other equipment will be essential to develop your team members and provide effective support.

Customer, internship and R&D programs

• You lead initiatives on specific customer co-operations, global competitor & product monitoring.
• You coordinate R&D projects with universities and other institutes on specific domains.
• You will run internship programs with universities to identify future talent and support BITC initiatives.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

Must Have

• Masters degree in Metallurgy/Materials Science engineering
• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy
• Min 5 years of industry experience
• Experience in management of labs and people within teams(engineers, technicians)
• Excellent logical and analytical skills
• Well versed in the English and Hindi language: written and spoken.
• Good communication skills
• Good team spirit, a strong sense of responsibility and be able to work independently.

Prefer to have

• Expertise in using scanning electron microscopy, optical and stereo microscopy
• Experience in steel industry
• Expertise in corrosion of steel
• Experience in product development or process development
• Experience in maintaining/establishing ISO, TS and NABL certifications
