Scope   
This position evaluates the efficiency of the steel cord production technology by use of production and product information from BiQuery/SAP, quality, safety, metallurgy, chemistry, and any other related information to provide improvements in the overall process as assigned.  The engineer will monitor the process efficiency by analyzing data out of BiQuery/SAP and other sources.  This position is responsible for maintaining close communication with the Production Cord Department, the Engineering Department, and the Lab.

Essential Job Functions

  •   Evaluates the process ability (quality) of high carbon wire rod throughout the production process in order to apprise the internal supplier(s) on required improvements on the half products received and the outside supplier about the raw material standards.
  •   Maintains a working knowledge of all Statistical Processes and a technical knowledge of all production processes.
  •   Follows professional guidelines for communications, negotiations, and participate in the Bekaert Rogers Team Concept of Management philosophy.
  •   Responsible to provide mechanical support in the plant in areas requiring metallurgical and technical knowledge.
  •   Responsible for the continuous improvement of ‘drawing technology’ for very hard high carbon steel displaying superior knowledge of metallurgy, chemistry, and applied nature.
  •   Strives to improve the bunching technology with newly developed high technology bunching machine capabilities for high carbon steel cord.
  •   Researches and develops new processes and technology utilizing the team concept of participative management including trial runs and development of Standard Operating Procedures.
  •   Executes and/or assists troubleshooting in all processes which require his/her expertise (coordinating, participating with Total Quality Commitment/Statistical Process Control activities) as assigned by the Technical Manager.
  •   Responsible for evaluating and analyzing the production technology of all processes in the Cord area for the purpose of consistent improvement. This directive is to be accomplished through established methodology of all problem-solving techniques as      part of the Bekaert Rogers plant.  
  •   Ensure improved quality and productivity through development, implementation and follow-up of new methods, procedures, equipment modification and supervise proper training of all personnel consistent with same.
  •   Direct and/or conduct special projects and trials to ensure that appropriate data is available in the follow-up of selected customer orders, new products, or changes in methods, procedures or equipment to ensure achievement of quality specifications and    feasibility.
  •   Provide technical support to Maintenance and Production Management.
  •   Collaborate constructively with colleagues in other departments to contribute both to achievement of department objectives and to the development of a general spirit of cooperation throughout the plant.
  •   Serve a Production Cord Manager and Team Leader in their absence, as needed.
  •   Initiate engineering plans to improve quality and increase production rates, increase raw material consumption efficiencies, improve production costs, improve plant safety and improve maintenance efficiencies.
  •   Stay abreast of the latest developments in equipment and processes, which might affect Bekaert.
  •   Responsible for all other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Technical Manager.
  •   Must possess ability to use computer technology to maximize the efficiency in carrying out the Engineering responsibility.
  •   FMEA Training.
  •   IATF 16949 Rules Training.


Essential Skills and Competencies
•    Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering field
•    Good Communication Skills
