About the role

Your Impact as Environmental Supervisor

 

Your Essential Job Functions

  • The primary communicator of the environmental message to employees and management within the plant; major responsibility includes encouraging employee involvement with environmental compliance.

  • Monitors the local environmental program in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Transportation (DOT) and all other federal, state, and Bekaert policies.

  • Supports SHE Manager, Corporate, Group, and North America Environmental initiatives designed to drive best practices across Bekaert.

  • Conducts inspections in order to generate and turn-in various reports for federal and state agencies in order to fulfill regulatory requirements these include: Monthly Wastewater Treatment report to the MDEQ, Quarterly VOC Report for Air Permit, Annual Hazardous Waste report, SARA 311, 312 and 313 reports and TEC reports.   In addition, provides monthly Environmental reports to corporate office.

  • Assist in maintaining compliance with all environmental permits to ensure plant compliance (i.e. Air Permit, Industrial Wastewater Discharge, NPDES Storm Water Discharge, Boiler Permit, etc.). Absolutely essential to maintain compliance with the Title V Air Permit. 

  • Manages and documents all Hazardous and Non-Hazardous DOT shipping papers. Responsible for ensuring DOT shipping papers are signed only by authorized personnel.

  • Assist the SHE in developing, implementing and executing facilitates process and provides technical and administrative leadership to ensure compliance with the local, state and federal environmental requirements.

  • Develops, implements, and executes various environmental training programs designed to enhance overall plant environmental commitment and awareness. 

  • Provides department managers and staff with the necessary environmental information in order for them to develop safe SOP’s/manuals dealing with all aspects of the plant.

  • Assist in the development and helps manage the environmental expense budget; participates in creating the X+1 capital budget.

  • Manages and maintains environmental files in a manner that are readily available for inspection by regulating agencies.

  • Initiates cost saving opportunities to improve environmental conditions in the community.

  • Conducts training and drills addressing scenarios of various environmental emergencies that could adversely affect the environment, employee’s safety, or the local community.

  • Verifies sampling and analysis of wastewater and sludge is conducted by wastewater operators per the sampling plan. Responsible for coordinating with our external laboratory (per permit) to verify operations are within permit requirements.

  • Operates and monitors wastewater treatment operation and ensures monthly reports are completed in order to provide POTW with accurate pH data and wastewater discharge volumes.

  • Actively participates with Plant Staff, Department Managers, and maintenance personnel in order to coordinate waste reduction in all facets of the business including hazardous waste and critical resources.

  • Supervise and manage four wastewater treatment operators.

  • Support the SHE manager in safety related activities including but not limited to; leading safety team meetings, conducting risk assessments, providing safety training/new hire orientation, checking eye wash stations, and administrative duties supporting reporting injuries.

  • Any additional tasks assigned that are not unsafe or unethical.

  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

 

 

About You

Essential skills & competencies

  • Associate’s degree minimum: 2 years related environmental experience in the manufacturing industry is desired. 

  • Wastewater Certification.

  • Personal computer skills are desired especially in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SAP. 

  • Must be a self-starter, capable of working without direct supervision and have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. 

  • Individual must employ effective public speaking, facilitator skills, trainer, and problem solver techniques throughout daily operations.
