Plant SHE Manager

Purpose of the Job

As the SHE Manager, you will provide robust functional leadership in Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) matters to ensure the achievement of site SHE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with a strong focus on continuous improvement. This role encompasses effective planning, governance, control, monitoring, review, and maintenance of preventive and protective measures. You will work cross-functionally to uphold compliance with Bekaert's operating standards, policies, and health and safety requirements. This role primarily covers the two Newcastle sites at Willington and Neptune Quays.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion SHE initiatives on-site to foster a culture of well-being, safety, and sustainability.
• Provide guidance to management on promoting and implementing SHE targets and improvements, ensuring resources are allocated for agreed activities.
• Manage SHE data and KPIs in the Enablon system, ensuring accurate and timely updates.
• Develop a continuous improvement strategy for SHE in alignment with Bekaert's strategy, partnering with the management team and key stakeholders.
• Monitor compliance with legal and Bekaert standards, addressing any non-compliance issues with site management.
• Develop and implement programs to reduce SHE hazards and risks.
• Ensure SHE records are completed, maintained, and available for inspection as required.
• Facilitate proper reporting of SHE issues to local authorities.
• Oversee and participate in regular SHE inspections (including gemba walks).
• Encourage team involvement in SHE issues and address any complaints or breaches.
• Liaise with relevant external authorities, customers, and stakeholders to promote SHE performance and improvements.

Key Skills and Competencies

• NEBOSH General Certificate required; strong working knowledge of manufacturing SHE issues and solutions. NEBOSH Diploma preferred.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with managers and team members to secure commitment to SHE actions and improvements.
• Leadership skills with the ability to drive SHE standards and change.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in MS applications and SharePoint databases.
• Auditing skills and a commitment to identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Ability to develop and implement SHE training programs.
• Proven track record of delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A strong commitment to teamwork and the ability to work well with both internal staff and contractors is essential.
