Purpose of the Job:

 

Bekaert is a global leader in advanced steel wire transformation and coating technologies, delivering essential solutions to many industries worldwide. We are committed to quality, innovation, and operational excellence. We are now seeking a skilled and proactive Quality & Process Technician to join our team at our Newcastle facility.

 

As a Quality & Process Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving product quality and production efficiency. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues, conducting thorough inspections, and ensuring alignment with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role will require working on a rotating shift basis to cover different hours of operation.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify, resolve, and document production issues to minimize downtime and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Conduct detailed inspections of products on the shop floor, ensuring compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Accurately record findings and observations from inspections and audits to maintain comprehensive records and support process improvement.
  • Identify and address discrepancies between shop floor activities and SOPs, proposing corrective actions as needed.
  • Assist in defining and documenting process specifications to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct GEMBA and Bekaert Manufacturing System (BMS) audits to ensure adherence to quality standards and drive continuous improvement.
  • Highlight and escalate issues to the appropriate personnel or next level of management for prompt resolution.
  • Inspect process parts such as rollers, dies, and heads, coordinating with maintenance for replacement when necessary.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures, including health, safety, and environmental, are strictly followed, adopting a 'no walk past' approach.
  • Actively participate in small improvement initiatives and Kaizen activities to follow up on the effectiveness of corrective action plans.

 

Skills & Competencies:

 

Essential:

 

  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance fundamentals.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment, ideally with a technical diploma or equivalent in a science or engineering discipline.
  • Proficient with MS Office tools and general computer literacy.
  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide timely and accurate information for decision-making.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and quality parameters.

Desirable:

 

  • Experience with internal auditing of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Familiarity with problem-solving techniques such as the Why-Why Analysis.
  • Diploma in Production or similar qualification.
