About the role

 Your Impact as Group Technical Risk Manager

 

Group Technical Risk Manager will report to the Group Risk and Insurance Manager and work closely with our maintenance, engineering, safety and projects departments.

 

  • In close cooperation with BU’s and Group Functions (SHE, Maintenance, Industrial Projects, Engineering), you will assess key operational risks and co-develop risk mitigation and insurance solutions based on Bekaert’s risk appetite, business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • You will serve as technical expert to assess our risk exposure and provide technical risk underwriting information (claims history, property and liability exposure data, prevention information, insured values, etc.) to optimize our total cost of risk (balance between self insured retention, captive retention, risk mitigation and risk transfer and drive our insurance negotiation position).
  • Together with BU’s and Group Functions, you will assist in the evaluation of new risks related to M&A, climate change, new products and technologies (Bekaert beyond steel), project business and service offerings to adjust our risk management and  insurance set-up.
  • Together with other Group Functions, you will support and guide risk management practices across BU Operations, execute loss control visits and support appropriate prevention implementation efforts (amongst others via on-site visits and risk surveys, standards, procedures and trainings) to prevent losses and claims (mainly in the domains of property, liability, transport and pollution). You will assist in root-cause analysis and in sharing of lessons learned within the organization.
  • You will establish communication and confidence between Bekaert and the insurance providers. You will serve as primary contact of the insurer’s loss control engineers and experts, follow-up execution of agreed action plans and hold claims and portfolio review meetings with insurer’s engineers, experts and main risk underwriters.
  • You will provide advice on property conservation standards for new plants and major expansions and will update and execute the strategic multi-year mitigation plan to reduce the overall property and business interruption risk in the company.
  • You will assist in insurance negotiations and claims management of property damage and business interruption, construction all risk, transport, public, product and professional liability, environmental liability, and cyber claims.
  • You will support the plant management teams in understanding their current and emerging risks, support in creating adaptation plans and in updating plant’s ERM risk registers.

About You

Essential skills & competencies

 

  • University degree (Master’s or Bachelor's) in Engineering or a related field with minimum of 5 years of experience in the area as specified.
  • Proven experience in risk management, process safety, project risk assessment and/or quality management are assets.
  • Self-driven with aanalytical, problem-solving attitude and a strong team player.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in approach and willingness to adjust as needed.
  • Good organizational knowledge and are able to interact with different levels of the organization.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situation and changing priorities without losing focus.
  • Strong project management skills; able to influence others without having authority over them.
  • Willing to travel (20-25% of your time)
  • Excellent verbal & written communication in English.
