As an IP Patent Attorney you define and implement strategies for technology protection for a specific business area, advise internal customers and stake holders within and beyond your dedicated business and manage specific projects. 

 

About the role

Your Impact as IP Pattern Attorney:

 

  • You give valuable input for the overall group strategy on Intellectual Property protection and take up a leading role in the strategy definition and implementation within your own business/technology domain.

  • You come at Intellectual Property from a business angle and are keen to advise your business on how to best capture value.

  • You handle the drafting, application, prosecution, grant and enforcement procedures for IP rights (patents, utility models, designs, trademarks), while continuously focusing on the added value and relevance for the business.

  • You participate in complex due diligence projects, support the review of third-party rights and autonomously address potential Intellectual Property risks.

  • You advise in the preparation, negotiation and execution of IP protection aspects in contracts, including license agreements. 

  • You co-operate with lawyers worldwide for prosecution and enforcement, especially litigation cases in connection with infringement of Bekaerts  IP rights, and are able to defend autonomously our companies’ rights at the European Patent Office in München or in your local jurisdiction.

  • You are a qualified European Patent Attorney or national patent attorney with 10 to 15 year experience in the field of IP, preferably both in-house and in private practice.

  • You coach colleagues and employees on complex IP matters as well as related projects/issues.

  • You build an important and valuable network within the company across businesses, functions and geographies.

 

 

About You

Essential skills & competencies

 

  • You have at least a Masters degree in science or engineering is required to have a solid background as well as a full professional qualification as patent attorney, a law degree is certainly a plus.

  • You must be recognized as an authority in Intellectual Property matters, have a broad scope of experience and not be afraid to take on new matters to be able to provide valuable insights and recommendations.

  • You have a good sense of humour, excellent communication skills and you are critical for effectively conveying complex information to a variety of stakeholders.

  • Your commercial and leadership skills are also important to be able to navigate the business landscape and make informed decisions.

  • You analytical thinking is a must-have skill to assess complex legal, technical, and business information and make informed decisions.

  • Having an eye for the bigger picture and understanding the business implications of your work is important to provide strategic advice.

  • Attention to detail is critical in reviewing and drafting legal documents and analyzing complex patent claims.

  • Being hands-on and proactive in your approach to work will help you deliver high-quality outcomes and meet deadlines.

  • proficiency in English, any other language is a plus.
